To the Residents of Lebanon:
Regarding Question 5 on Tuesday’s ballot, Central Maine Power is seeking to purchase a
50 foot wide strip of townowned land on the west side of the power line corridor between
Center Road and Merchants Row to build a new transmission line. CMP hopes to build a
new substation near West Lebanon Road, but it needs to widen their corridor to bring a
transmission line to the new substation site. In response to the Town’s request, CMP has
agreed to build the line on the west side of the corridor to keep the new clearing and
construction on the far side of the corridor from the Lebanon Elementary School and the
Hanson School.
The substation will help the company reduce the frequency and duration of outages in
Lebanon, and it will add to the town’s tax base. This is a critical investment in the electrical
infrastructure that serves Lebanon. With your approval, CMP and the Town can work
together to bring better, more reliable electric service to homes and businesses in your
community.
